Philadelphia Inquirer

The Philadelphia Inquirer is one of the oldest continuously operating daily newspapers in the United States. In the first redesign in nearly three decades, The Inquirer sought to modernize its design in both aesthetic and process, aiming to provide its audience with an engaging reading experience and create a more efficient design system for daily publication.

The design system is dynamic and flexible, providing The Inquirer’s designers with a toolkit of adaptable grids that can flex to the needs of the daily articles and content. The rich typographic palette, designed by Henrik Kubel of A2-TYPE, translates fonts that were historically used by The Inquirer into a range of headline and body copy typefaces that can be used to build layouts with more contrast and variety.
