IEEE Spectrum, the flagship magazine of the IEEE, sought a complete editorial redesign to revitalize both its website and print edition. The redesign aims to reflect the excitement and innovation of science and engineering through a modern visual identity and vibrant color palette. A modular layout improves navigation and readability, while the new branding—including a custom wordmark—emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and forward-thinking design.

The overhaul extends to user engagement, with new features like customizable robot avatars, updated photography guidelines, and consistent infographics. A dedicated section called “The Institute” fosters connection among IEEE members. The modular design also enhances the print edition, enabling creative storytelling with custom visuals and efficient formatting. Contributor portraits use generative art, and diagrams stand out against warm page tones, adding visual depth and coherence across formats.
